Last year, the festival had been upset by the sudden arrival of covid. This year, Catherine Bizern and her team have anticipated and proposed CanalRéel: an entirely online festival. The awards were unveiled on March 21, after 10 days of the festival.

The perfect opportunity to put women's work in cinema industries into light with Ada Solomon, the famous Romanian producer, who won the Berlin Golden Bear this year with Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Radu Jude, 2020), which raises awareness on women's bodies and sexuality issues.

After its second round of voting (a first longlist had been announced on last 4th of February), the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has just revealed its 2021 nominations. 

The third round of voting that will determine the winners will open on the 25th of March while the Awards Ceremony will take place on the Sunday 11th of April.

The Generation International Jury (composed of German actress Jella Haase, Dutch director Mees Peijnenburg and German director and screenwriter Melanie Waelde) and The International Short Film Jury (including German actor Sebastian Urzendowsky, Austrian cinematographer Christine A. Maier and Egyptian artist Basim Magdy) has announced the 2021 Awards for both the Generation & Berlinale Shorts sections.

Sarah Gavron’s Rocks, Remi Weekes’ His House and Florian Zeller's The Father were the leaders at the 2021 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) with five, four and three awards respectively. The ceremony was hosted virtually by actor Tom Felton (Harry Potter series, Risen, Braking for Whales...) live from Wales, where he is filming Save the Cinema by Sara Sugarman. 

Founded in 1998 by Elliot Grove and Suzanne Ballantyne (who also created the Raindance Film Festival), The British Independent Film Awards highlight and reward the best, innovative and creative filmmaking and filmmakers in the United Kingdom. They encourage emerging talent and promote British film to the public.

On the last 12th of December, the European Film Awards revealed its 2020 winners during a virtual Ceremony broadcast, streamed live from the Academy’s seat in Berlin. This event took place a few days after Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland had been elected as the new president of the European Film Academy, succeeding Wim Wenders.
