Which festivals to attend this summer?

Summer is here and numbers of festivals are coming up! From Brussels to Melbourne, Moonday brings you the ultimate summer festivals agenda.



All year round festivals are happening around the world. As summer brings numbers of festivals it is not always easy to chose which to attend. With this article, Moonday aims at easing the planning of your summer festivals tour of  2022!

Ponta Lopud Film Festival (Croatia)1-4

Starting with the Ponta Lopud Festival 2022. From the 22d to  the 27th of June, the Croatian festival will take place on the Lopud Island near Dubrovnik. For its second edition, different screenings are organized. If you want to watch several movies by the Coen brothers as well as other productions in an idyllic location, you know where to head to !


Munich Film Festival (Germany)

Germany’s largest summer film festival is ready to start! From the 23rd of June to the 2d of July, you can attend the Munich Film Festival and make your selection among the 120 movies screened this year! With three main competitions, the festival allows filmmakers from all over the world to present their work and to interact with the audience.  

Brussels International Film Festival (Belgium)

After a few days in Munich why not come to Brussels for the BRIFF? The Brussels International Film Festival is ready to take off from the 23rd of June to the 2d of July. The BRIFF will take place in different locations of the Belgium’s capital, with an International and a National competition, as well as the Director’s Week Competition.

Our summer festivals tour continues with the 56th Edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, in Czech Republic. From the 1st to the 9th of July, some 200 films from around the world will be presented. Two competitions are taking place at the festival: the Crystal Globe Competition and the Proxima Competition in each several prizes will be awarded. Keep an eye on Moonday to know everything about the winners!

Fantasia Film Festival (Canada)

Adding a bit of fantasy to our summer festivals journey, we are now heading to the Fantasia Film Festival in Canada! 11 movie features and some 80 short movies are soon to be presented with the festival starting on the 14th of July and lasting until the 3rd of August. The full programm will be announced at the end of the month, stay tuned!


New horizon International Film Festival (Poland)

To end the first month of our summer holidays,, the New Horizon International Film Festival is the place to be. From the 21st to the 31st of July, let’s go to Wroclaw, in Poland. There, you’ll have the opportunity to watch the movies that are usually forgotten by festivals “due to their unusual form and power of expression”. The programm annoucement is planned on the 5th of July.

Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland)

Still hungry for festivals? The agenda goes on with the famous Locarno Film Festival. You can head to Switzerland and attend the festival from the 3rd to the 13th of August. With 11 sections, 3 competitions, and 20 awards, the city turns into an European International Cinema Capital each year. “This is the framework of a Festival that explores cinema from every perspective, to discover in the present the filmmakers and films destined to have a future.”


Melbourne International Film Festival (Australia)3

A new edition of the MIFF is coming! The festival will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year and plans a return to a in-cinemas version. The awaited programm will be fully disclosed on the 12th of July, don’t miss any information by following the festival on Moonday. The Australian festival will occur from the 4th to the 21st of August, don’t forget it is winter there!

Sarajevo Film Festival (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Next step is Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Sarajevo Film Festival. From the 12th to the 19th of August, the festival will celebrate Southeastern European cinema. Each edition is the perfect opportunity to put these movies into an international spotlight and to focus on regional cinema. More info are soon to come on Moonday!


Venice International Film Festival (Italy)

Last but not least, the 79th Venice International Film Festival will happen from the 31st of August to the 10th of September. The programm of the world’s oldest festival is yet to be disclosed so go follow their profile on Moonday and be the first to know about this year’s edition.
